ATM News Network, Mumbai, Oct 2: The Maharashtra agriculture commissioner has permanently revoked the sales licenses of 11 seed companies operating in the state for allegedly supplying spurious soybean seeds. The National Seed Association has taken serious cognizance of the development. While speaking with ATM, Director of the Association, Mr Indrashekhar Singh said that the process of preparing soybean seeds is very sensitive and complicated."The license to sell the seeds was issued only after verifying the suitability of the seeds. If the seeds were defective the manufacturers would not have got the licenses. The seed manufacturers will never harm the interests of the farmers. We will move the court of law against this draconian decision of the government".

The state government has taken action against the following companies. M/S Asian Seeds Pvt Ltd, Indore, M/S Balaji seeds and Agritech Khandwa, MS Bombay Super Hybrid Seeds Ltd, Gujarat, May Angristar Genetics Pvt. Ltd., Sabarkantha, Ms Bansal Seeds Khandwa, Ms Horizon Agro Science Pvt. Ltd., Pune, M / s. Mohra Seeds, Indore, May. Nilesh Agro Seeds Madhya Pradesh, May. Ravi Seeds Corporation Gandhinagar, M / s. Siddharth Seeds Company, Khandwa, M / s. Best Seeds Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. These companies had supplied seeds to the farmers for the bygone Kharif season. When the farmers complained that the seeds failed to germinate the Agriculture Commissioners office conducted the inspection. The seeds are considered unsuitable if their productivity is less than 70 percent.
