India bans export of onion seeds
ATM News Network, Mumbai, Nov 4, 2020: This ban has been imposed to control onion prices in the domestic market amid concerns regarding seeds shortage ahead of the next sowing season. The Indian Government has banned the export of onion seeds with immediate effect. Director-General of Foreign Trade imposed a ban vide notification No 43/2015-20 dated Oct 29,2020. Earlier, the export of onion seeds was mentioned in the restricted category means exporter have to obtain permission from DGFT for exports of onion seeds, now it comes under the prohibited category. Iran, Netherland, and the United Arab Emirates are the top three importers of Onion seeds in the fiscal year 2019-20.
